How I use a home decor item to reflect a meaningful event
1930’s candle holder from a seller in Denmark.
I love decorating my interior design clients’ homes in a way that reflects people and events that are meaningful to them and it’s also how I design my own home.
Here is one example of an object I have used to decorate my Frisco, Texas home that reflects a significant event in my life.
Ever since my kids were little I’ve had the tradition of buying myself a present on their first day back to school every year. It’s been a way to both boost my mood when I was sad about them getting older and to celebrate the extra me time.
This month my husband and I dropped our oldest child off at an out-of-state college for the very first time, and it was even more sad than I anticipated. I knew I would need to give myself a big start-of-school gift this year and I wanted what ever I bought myself to have a feature that reflected my son’s start at the college.
Since his school mascot is a cougar, when I came across this candle holder from the 1930’s on 1stDibs I knew it was the perfect way to commemorate this huge life milestone.

I love having an interior design business with my twin sister! My favorite way to come up with a design is to use favorite places, people, and memories as the inspiration. I live in Frisco Texas with my husband and our three teenaged children, who are my most rewarding interior design clients. I love Andy’s, podcasts, reading and tv, especially while sitting in bed. My goal is for your home to feel cozy when you are alone, spacious when you are throwing a party, and to give you a confidence boost every time you walk in the door.
