IDEAS FOR STYLING THE TOP OF A WASHER AND DRYER
Despite what a “laundry room inspo” Pinterest search will lead you to believe, most of us don’t have huge laundry rooms with long expanses of counter space. So here’s how to add styling when the only surface area in your laundry room is the top of your washer and dryer.
1. ADD A LAMP
This is my first and number one tip because it is the quickest way to take a dreary, utilitarian room and make it feel cozy.
It doesn’t matter that you have an overhead light, and I guarantee at least one person in your life is going to tell you how useless this is, but don’t listen to them. You could never switch this on and just having it in the room will make a huge difference in the way the room feels, but you will probably find that working in soft lamp light instead of bright overhead light is much more relaxing, especially when you are doing laundry early in the morning or late at night when overhead lighting can feel especially harsh.
Another bonus is that for those of us living in North Dallas where our laundry room is often either the room we enter from the garage or adjacent to that entry point, a lamp in this area can be left on almost like a night light and it will give the perfect amount of light for coming in the house after dark.
2. USE WOVEN TRAYS
I am being specific about the tray type because I’ve tried different kinds and while almost any type of tray is useful in a laundry room, a woven tray will add much needed warmth when your only surface area is the top of the appliances. Don’t make the mistake of getting round trays, which are only useful in very specific instances and are not useful in a laundry room. Get either rectangular or square.
3. PUT MOST FREQUENTLY USED LAUNDRY PRODUCTS INTO PRETTY CONTAINERS
I prefer open containers like different sized bowls because not only does it look less expected than a lidded canister, but it saves time when you don’t have to open and close lids. But if you have small children or pets that could reach the laundry supplies, then use the prettiest lidded containers you can find.
4. ADD ART
Give yourself something pretty to look at even if there’s only room for something small.
I don’t know of anyone who loves doing laundry so taking a little time to make this chore more pleasant is worth it!
