The items you’ll need for styling a console table

I’m sharing my go-to list of items that I always have on hand to style a console table. These are also the types of items that I specify in designs for clients.

Just know that this list of styling ingredients is really for console tables that are up against a wall. If the table is more centered in the room, like against the back of a sofa, the styling is often different.

Here are the items I use to create a decorated space on top of a console table:

  • 1 LAMP, most often 24” tall at minimum. Ideally around 30” tall depending on length of console table. I only like two lamps, so one on either end of the table, if it is a super long table and if the room is really needing the symmetry.

  • 2 COFFEE TABLE BOOKS STACKED. Depending on the length of the table and/or the way I want to style it I’ll use multiple of these stacks of books.

  • 1 VASE OF GREENERY OR FLOWERS, almost always taller than the lamp.

  • 2-3 SMALL OBJECTS like bowls, sculptures, candles

I am an interior designer who is lucky enough to have a business with my twin sister. My favorite way to come up with a design is to use favorite places, people, and memories as the inspiration. I live in Frisco Texas with my husband and our three teenaged children, who are my most rewarding interior design clients. I love Andy’s, podcasts, reading and tv, especially while sitting in bed. My favorite room to design is the living room because it serves so many purposes. My goal is for your home to feel cozy when you are alone, spacious when you are throwing a party, and to give you a confidence boost every time you walk in the door.
